SCENE I

Narrator:     Laura, Hilda, Silvia, Yvonne, Ingrid, and Dill are college students in Kaohsiung. One afternoon Laura meets Hilda at the school restaurant.

Laura:          Hey, do you want to have a class trip during our summer vacation?

Hilda:           Wow, that sounds great! How many days should we take?

Laura:          Uh, only one day on July third and we have to get three motorcycles.

Hilda:           Can we go with Ingrid and Yvonne?

Laura:          Sure, Dill and Silvia will join us, too.

Hilda:           I think we should have a discussion about it.

Laura:          How about six o’clock this evening at T203?

Hilda:           OK, after school I will find Ingrid, Yvonne, Dill, and Silvia to discuss this with us.

SCENE II

Narrator:  At six o’clock in the evening. The school bell rings. Everyone goes to class in T203.

Laura:       OK, everyone’s here. Now, we start our discussion about the class trip.

Hilda:        First, we talk about places that are beautiful and special where we’ve never been to.

Dill:           And the most important thing is the famous local snacks in those places.

Laura:       Dill, you’re crazy about food.

(Everyone laughs loudly.)

Hilda:        OK, OK, does anyone have any suggestions?

Ingrid:       I think Tainan is a good place. There are many historic sites there.

Yvonne:     That’s right. The Eternal Castle, An-Ping Fort, and Red Hill Chamber are very beautiful.

Hilda:        People in Tainan are friendly.

Silvia:        Really?

Hilda:        Yes, like me.

Silvia:        Oh, Hilda.

Ingrid:       The snacks in Tainan are also very special.

Yvonne:     Like “coffin bread”, shrimp rolls, and preserves.

Hilda:        Preserves is my favorite.

Dill:           Me, too.

Silvia:        But I think Chia-yi is a good place, too.

Ingrid:       Yeah! The sunrise of A-li Mountain’s very beautiful.

Dill:           And we can take the small train up the hills.

Silvia:        Turkey rice and meat dumplings are famous food there.

Yvonne:     But the sunrise at A-li Mountain can’t be seen often, so we should think it over.

Laura:       Uh, that’s not a big deal.

Dill:           Taichung has sun cakes, old-wifes cakes. And we can go to Tunghai University. There’re many trees and flowers in that campus.

Ingrid:       I want to see their Luce Chapel.

Yvonne:     We can do sun bathing on the lawn near the chapel.

Silvia:        Wow, that’s wonderful.

Dill:           Feng-chia Night Market is lively. I want to go there to eat a lot of food.

Hilda:        And we can spend our time there.

Laura:       How about Feng-Yuan? There’s waterfall near Ho-Fang Bridge.

Silvia:        And then?

Dill:           There’re three kinds of delicious food that you can’t miss.

Ingrid:       What are they?

Dill:           Sparerib noodles, cakes, and rose pies. Many people said rose pies there taste good.

Ingrid:       How about you?

Dill:           Uh, I feel it’s nothing special. My favorite is sparerib noodles.

Silvia:        Wow, if I go there, I want to taste it.

Ingrid:       There’re many places in Taichung, but we don’t have enough time to visit all of them.

Hilda:        Laura lives in Hsin-chu .How about Hsin-chu?

Laura:       Everyone knows that the famous foods in Hsin-chu are rice noodles and meatball soup.

Yvonne:     Where can we go to have fun?

Laura:       You can go to A-mei Lake and Bei-pu Old Street.

Yvonne:     Is there anything special about them?

Laura:       Just countryside, nothing special.

Yvonne:     That’s too bad.

Laura:       Wait, there’re many food stalls near Cheng-huang Temple. It’s lively there.

Hilda:        Uh, does anyone have other suggestions?

All:            No, that’s all.

Yvonne:     OK, everyone chooses one of the places we have mentioned. We’ll go to on July third.

Narrator:  Now everyone puts their votes in a box. The result is Tainan, which gets six votes.

Ingrid:       The place that got most votes is Tainan . So, we have to go to Tainan on that day.

Dill:           So, everyone has to be at Tainan Train Station before 9 a.m.

Silvia:        Laura, don’t oversleep or we’ll go without you.

Laura:       I know, I know.

Silvia:        And Dill, don’t eat too much in Tainan or you’ll be a fat soul.

Dill:           Silvia, you’re kidding.

(Everyone laughs loudly.)

SCENE III

Narrator:  On the day of the class trip everyone comes to Tainan Train Station on time except Silvia.

Laura:       Is everyone here?

Hilda:        Silvia’s late.

Dill:           Oh, we have to wait for her.

Laura:       She was the one, who told me not to oversleep, but she is late herself!

(Suddenly Silvia arrives.)

Silvia:        Sorry, I’m late. Forgive me, OK?

Ingrid:       That’s not easy. We’ve been waiting for you for twenty minutes!

Silvia:        Sorry!

Yvonne:     You have to help us carry our luggage.

Silvia:        Oh no! Spare my life.

Dill:           Don’t play jokes. Forgive her.

Hilda:        Now we’ll ride motorcycles to An-Ping. Is everyone ready?

SCENE IV

Narrator:  25 minutes later. They arrive at An-Ping Fort.

Yvonne:     Wow, An-Ping old castle is beautiful.

Ingrid:       And the old street’s lively.

Dill:           The restaurant, which is famous for “coffin bread” is over there.

Laura:       That’s right. I’m very hungry. Let’s go.

Silvia:        The restaurant also sells shrimp cookies(蝦餅).

Yvonne:     They look tasty. I’m hungry, too.

Ingrid:       The “coffin bread” and shrimp cookies taste good.

Dill:           After we eat, we can go to the old street.

Hilda:        The Old Street is as lively as the night market.

Yvonne:     There’re many sachets and old-fashioned things.

Silvia:        And the pastries are good there, too.

Ingrid:       I want to buy some for my mother.

Yvonne:     Me, too.

Dill:           The second place is Eternal Castle. Does anyone know how to get there?

Hilda:        I know. It’s a bit way out.

Laura:       Uh, let’s go.

Narrator:  One hour later they arrive at the Eternal Castle.

Silvia:        The big gun is bigger than An-Ping Old Castle.

Ingrid:       It is ordinary, nothing special. And there aren’t many people here.

Yvonne:     Let me take a picture.

Laura:       Let’s go to Red Hill Chamber.

Dill:           OK, and eat something special.

SCENE V

Narrator:  Next, it takes half of an hour for them to get to Red Hill Chamber.

Dill:           Wow, it’s crowded.

Ingrid:       That’s right. Today is weekend, so there’re many people.

Hilda:        The Max Ground Tea near Red Hill Chamber is very famous.

Yvonne:     And Wu Temple is near it, too.

Laura:       What’s that?

Silvia:        Worshipping at Wu Temple can help students get good grades, but only in spirit, I think.

Hilda:        We can worship the god at Wu temple.

Dill:           Time goes fast. It’s already six o’clock!

Ingrid:       We can go to Hsiao-pei Night Market. There’re many famous foods there.

Yvonne:     For example, duck with noodles, oyster thin noodles, and stinky tofu.

Ingrid:       And Taiwanese meatballs, oyster omelets, and tomatoes on sticks.

Dill:           Today is a happy day for me. We had a lot of fun.

Yvonne:     Yes, I feel tired, but I’m very happy.

Silvia:        I’ve never eaten so much, but today I made an exception.

(Everybody laughs.)

Ingrid:       OK, let’s go home.

Laura:       Uh, bye-bye, everybody.
